The Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program is essential for children between the ages 4 and 5. The maturity of social, motor, emotional, and cognitive skills helps the child develop a sense of independence. Here at Tullahoma Day Care we’ll provide your child with a good foundation for a smooth transition into elementary school.
Elements of Strong Pre-K Foundation
We promote games that involve running, jumping, swinging and climbing. Our playground is a safe, and yet really fun. The children play under close supervision to avoid accidents. We further nurture their physical abilities by encouraging eating with a fork, spoon, and sometimes a knife for spreading butter on bread. We train their hands and fingers to print some letters and draw concrete images, such as a chicken, table, or flower.
Important Subjects
Math and Science are introduced to develop better cognitive skills. Physical objects are used to teach math and science concepts. The child is taught how to use basic technology terms and equipment. Acting, singing and dancing are used to improve the child’s sense of creativity, memory and concentration. Painting, modeling, solving puzzles and drawing are fun and informative activities to teach alphabets, numbers, and other abstract concepts. For example, coloring inside the picture shows that the child is good at listening and following instructions.
Our language lessons help the child develop longer and understandable sentences, up to twelve words long. New words are often introduced. We involve the children in storytelling to promote better language and communication skills. Using words to express emotions helps dispel temper tantrums and crying. Our children are also given a platform to ask questions. Here, we often explain the meanings of words they may have heard at home, on TV or elsewhere.
Social Skills
Their social skills are developed as they play with their peers. Copying of behavior is common within this age group. We, therefore, monitor the children to ensure they do not introduce or copy unpleasant behavior. Jokes are encouraged to grow the children’s sense of humor. As the child develops superior emotional understanding, they are able to recognize emotion in others. We teach the child how to talk about their ideas and feelings as well. Our Pre-Kindergarten program is dedicated to producing smarter, stronger and more expressive children with strong personalities.
