Watching your child grow, despite its challenges, is a beautiful thing. Between your child’s third and fourth birthday, they show tremendous improvement in all aspects of their development. It is also the period when things can get sporadic since their fantasies seem like reality. Our program provides the child with a fun and safe environment to explore their imaginations while helping them grasp aspects of reality.
The Journey Towards Developmental Milestones
Kids at this age often play in groups, which is highly encouraged. It helps the child to grasp the concept of sharing. They should discover that not all toys belong to them. This advances their social development. By age 4, they have the capability to speak grammatically correct sentences with about five to ten words. The use of songs and storytelling provides the child with new words.
This is exciting for them as it develops their language and communication skills. Also, at this age, they love telling stories and have a fairly good memory. When they return home, the child will want to narrate how their day went and parents are encouraged to actively participate in the conversation.
Learning the Basics
To sharpen their increased cognitive abilities, the children learn to memorize numbers in chronological order and understand the basic concepts of counting. Counting blocks are introduced since their sense of abstract thought is not developed. We strive to help them internalize colors such that they can recognize a red dress, a yellow book and so on. We emphasize the concepts of time such as lunchtime, morning, day and night. Fantasy play is encouraged since it opens the mind to creative ideas.
Discipline
Since they are better at grasping instructions, the child is sternly warned against wrongdoing. Punishment follows if they repeat the action. This is essential because creative children get very cheeky at this age. They develop the ability to tell little lies and playing pranks. However, they still believe grown-ups can read minds so that helps to keep the discipline in check [bs_icon name=”glyphicon glyphicon-thumbs-up”].
Encouragement & Self Enhancement
A little freedom is given to the children to try and solve problems such as getting dressed, wiping after using the potty, tying shoelaces and washing hands. Proper supervision is still provided. The curious child also wants the freedom to ask “who”, “what”, “how” and “why” questions. This eagerness to learn the world around him shows an improved sense of observation.
We also give them the freedom to draw from their own imagination. With improved motor skills, games that involve running, kicking, throwing, and jumping are highly encouraged. We don’t just offer the child fun things to do, we monitor them and are quick to let you know about any odd behavior.
